The physicians at Montgomery Cardiovascular Associates long recognized that optimal cardiovascular health went beyond expert diagnostics, surgery and drugs. They knew that good heart health was also about lifestyle – things in the control of their patients. And at the top of that lifestyle list was exercise. That is why in 1996 they had the foresight to go well beyond the norms of standard care and opened the doors of the MCA Health and Fitness Center. Here their own patients, as well as others, could receive exercise programs customized to their own special needs by qualified professional exercise experts. Over time it became increasingly evident just how vital the role of proper exercise is to cardiovascular health. Today the benefits of regular exercise make headlines everywhere with the same message: exercise is indeed medicine. The effects of regular exercise were especially notable for seniors desiring to improve or maintain their mobility and ultimately their independence.
Whether an MCA Health and Fitness Center member is in rehab status or maintenance or just concerned about general health, increased energy, weight control and mobility, the Fitness Center is there with professional exercise specialists and a wide variety of top-of-the-line equipment. Care for Fitness Center members is always personalized with a review of medical histories,oxygen monitoring and blood pressure checks before and after exercise.
Fitness Director Wilson Scott has been at the Center for nearly 15 years. He received his degree in exercise physiology from Auburn University. His assistant Stephanie Kennedy received her degree in sports and fitness management and has assisted members since 2005. Other staff members are top kinesiology interns from universities and colleges.
The staff prides itself on creating a comfortable and congenial yet structured environment. Convenient hours accommodate everyone from the early morning “breakfast club” members to the after-work individuals who come to de-stress and maintain their health and fitness in a friendly and professional atmosphere.
